Value Of Promise Rings

Promise is a word that is used to inculcate a faith in someone or something that one says or intends to do. When it is said in a verbal form it has great value but when it is expressed in a symbolic way it gains more ground and gets rooted into one’s heart and mind. And this is what is being done by using Promise Rings.  These Promise Rings have their roots to ancient times but it was for a limited purpose like marriage or a life time living together commitment. With advancement in society, there came into existence many types of relations and so also the negativities which started shaking the foundation of verbal promises. So the areas of using these rings were gradually widened and today it includes many types of promises.

These can be categorized into:

Romantic or Love relationship promise – When two persons are in love but due to some reasons are not able to get into a wed lock immediately, they promise to wait for each other till the time. Then, when the time comes this promise ring is replaced by engagement and then by wedding ring.

Promise to be true friends without any romantic relationship – When two friends are quite close to each other by heart but without the least thought of any physical relationship but with pure platonic love and friendship, they promise to be there as a friend for each other for the rest of their life.

Religious Promise – When a person is inclined towards a particular religion or any religious wing or group and wants to be actively involved in it with a promise of being dedicated to its activities and principles, he can make a vow to himself or the leader of the group can call for a vow to be made and is handed over a promise ring as a symbol and witness of his promise.

Purity Promise – This is one that has come up of late due to the increasing pre-marital sexual relations leading to various health problems and reducing moral values. This also includes other negative habits like gambling, drinking and smoking. This promise is made by the children to their parents or self, either voluntarily or after mutual discussion. It is also made between two lovers who promise each other of having no physical relation outside the commitment.

Whatever may be the obligation, the promise, the commitment; it is a piousness that calls for faith and confidence. And to remind oneself about the promise made and strictly following it, these Promise Rings forms a great source. Whenever one sees it, one can feel the feelings attached to it, the promise that it holds and symbolizes and the value that it carries. This keeps the wearer always on the track and ensures that the person doesn’t forget, get distracted from it.

These Promise Rings can be made of any metal and design and are available in readymade form too. While buying these Promise Rings we must keep in mind that the inner meaning of it holds more value that its face value. So it is better to make it simple and cheap.
